Singapore, 16 September 2024 – AEIS, in collaboration with ITE College West, hosted a hand soldering competition, providing a valuable platform for students from ITE College East, ITE College Central, and ITE College West to gain hands-on soldering experience. Under the expert guidance of IPC Master Trainer Mr. Johnson Mauriel, the students were introduced to IPC standards, rules, and regulations before practicing soldering on PCB boards. The event was aimed at equipping students with crucial skills, preparing them for future opportunities, including the prestigious World Skills Competition.
Objectives of the Competition:1. Hands-On Skill Development: To provide students with practical training in hand soldering techniques, essential for a successful career in electronics.
2. World Skills Preparation: To help prepare students for national and international competitions, particularly the World Skills Competition, by exposing them to the level of expertise and standards required.
3. Adherence to IPC Standards: To educate students on IPC standards and best practices for soldering, ensuring high-quality and reliable solder joints.
4. Industry-Ready Competencies: To equip students with real-world skills in both through-hole and surface-mount technology (SMT) soldering, vital for careers in electronics repair, prototyping, and small-scale production.
Throughout the competition, students demonstrated enthusiasm, curiosity, and determination. They gained valuable insights into proper soldering techniques, rules, and component handling, culminating in hands-on experience soldering on PCB boards. Hand soldering is a vital technique that requires precision to ensure strong and reliable connections without damaging components, a skill highly valued in the electronics industry.
"It was a remarkable experience for the AEIS team to witness the perseverance and eagerness of the students," said Eileen Ang.
"This competition is more than just a test of skill—it’s about preparing the youth for real-world challenges in the electronics industry, as well as competitions like World Skills."
“We at IPC understand the skill gap challenges global electronics manufacturing industry going through. Our endeavour is to create awareness of the careers the electronics industry has to offer and promote opportunities to students in high school and technical college by providing them access to knowledge and content and connections with industry.” said Gaurab Majumdar, Executive Director IPC
Today, these young participants celebrated a special achievement by successfully completing the competition, gaining hands-on experience and vital technical knowledge. With the support of Mr. Johnson Mauriel and the IPC India team, the students have taken a significant step toward future careers in electronics and participation in global competitions.
AEIS extends its deepest thanks to Mr. Johnson Mauriel for his dedication and guidance and to the IPC India team for their invaluable support. This event reflects AEIS's ongoing commitment to empowering the next generation of talent through hands-on learning and skills development
